Special guests, Brenda Flores (double gold medalist and silver medalist for Mexico at the 2014 Central American Games and 2015 Pan American Games) and Manuel Lemus joined us for the group run on Saturday.
Manuel went on to win the Disney Avengers Half Marathon today!! We are looking forward to cheering Brenda on when she competes in the 10K at the 2016 Rio Olympics! Two extremely talented, hard working runners who are very humble and willing to answer lots of questions from the group. Excellent training and racing at Run Your Potential for the fall season. 55 PR's so far this year which proves that consistency, focus, 'sweet spot' training and group support leads to improvement and success. Of course not all training cycles and races lead to PR's but extremely proud of the resiliency and determination in this group. :)
A big shout out to Marzena for some great races this year! 2 solid Marathon PR's.. 3:14 at Ojai and 3:10 at St. George. We have fine-tuned the ideal combination of mileage, intensity and race strategy that works for her and look forward to continued progress in 2016! Tom ran his prior marathon PR in 1995 and has been trying to BQ ever since. Within one year with RYP he has run 2 goal marathons, missing a Boston Qualifying time by 4 seconds in May but then achieving a 4 min faster time 4 months later! With his 3:20 race he will definitely be going to Boston in 2017! Really great to see him reach his long sought goal! It was a super hot day at the Long Beach Marathon but Lexy maintained her cool and completed her first marathon in strong form and 176th place. Her great attitude and hard work is really paying off. And she is gearing up for more PR's in 2016. Dayna had a big PR in Chicago! The race unfolded even better than planned and she is getting real close to her BQ time! Excellent execution on race day! Dawn overcame some injury issues during training to run a big PR at the SLO Half! So great to see her get into her groove. Matt's huge triathlon training/racing are translating into quicker/stronger performances. He won first AG and 20th OA at the Bonelli Olympic Distance Tri with a PR time! He's being really smart about his training and see big break throughs at the longer distances next year. DeLisa ran a big 16 min PR at the LA RnR Half! And it was a hilly course! Such a hard worker so it will be great to see what this fairly new runner can do next year! and Carol managed a 3min PR at the Revel City Half after a tough year dealing with foot injury! Gratifying to see all the cross training pay off and that she is on track for getting her BQ next year. Many more races coming up! Make sure you find the enjoyment in the process and the results will follow. :) Cheers, Coach busy summer .. week after week of great training with the RYP crew and the Laguna Beach XC team ..8/18/2015 What an amazing and inspirational finish at the Western States 100 on Sunday. Gunhild Swanson is 70 years old and she finished with 6 seconds to spare! She's the oldest woman finisher in the history of the race to go under the 30 hour cut-off time.
Big RYP weekend with Mountains2Beach Half/Full last Sunday and the Laguna Hills Memorial Day races on Monday.
8PR's and excellent efforts from everyone :) Big congrats to Sabrina's for running a 5 min PR 2:58 and grabbing the podium with her 3rd Place finish! Epic 2015 Boston Marathon! 16 in the Run Your Potential crew, 9 first time Boston runners. All survived the cold, windy, rain conditions on the hallowed grounds from Hopkinton to the finish on Boylston. 4 PR's and 16 proud Finishers! For all an amazing experience full of emotion and gratitude. We love Boston.. thank you again for the incredible people that organize, volunteer, spectate, cheer like crazy and make this such as special event
